Phoenix Games Manager: Shawn ‘Workaholic’ Morgan
Before Phoenix Games existed, Shawn was hunting down rare games in the wild for over a decade with the owner. Shawn’s extensive knowledge base of games led to impressive finds that helped launched Phoenix Games’ store opening.
Shawn is a diversified gamer. There are very few systems he hasn’t owned and played extensively. His knowledge of numerous platforms and games landed him the position as store manager. But his experience and skills in business management, merchandising and customer service are a huge driving force of maintaining the front lines at Phoenix Games.
His first game system was the Atari 2600 of which he spent many hours playing and ignoring his homework. But it was the Sega Dreamcast that really captured his interest and dominated a majority of his time with games like Shenmue, Powerstone, and of course, Crazy Taxi. It was an emotional moment for him when the Sega Dreamcast announced it would be no more – he went into denial, grew angry and openly cried. Brokenhearted, Shawn eventually moved on to have random encounters with other systems but they never touched him the way his Dreamcast did.
When he wasn’t at home gaming, (mainly because his parents told him to go out and do something else) he could be found at the local arcades where he spent his lunch money, allowance, paycheck, and life savings on games like Moon Patrol and Joust.
Now, Shawn can be found playing Animal Crossing New Leaf on his Nintendo 3DS XL, Mass Effect Andromeda (Xbox One), Neverwinter (Xbox One) and Twilight Zone pinball game.
He’s currently ranked #155 in the world at Plants Vs Zombies survival mode with 202 flags captured.
Shawn also holds the store record at 1943 with a score of 306,170 since 2011.
Pinball is another favorite past time for Shawn as well. He participates in the monthly super league event and is currently ranked 8,461 in the world at pinball.
You might think that all Shawn does is hang out at Phoenix Games playing around but you’d be wrong. He also enjoys coffee, reading, movies, and eating at restaurants with brass poles and chicken wings. Some of his other past times include: surfing the internet for “educational” videos, long walks on the beach, Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
He’s been managing Phoenix Games since its opening in 2009 and when asked what his future plans were he simply stated, “I’m just here for the chicks.”
There you have it, words from a professional gamer.
