Phoenix Games Employee: Aaron “That Asian Guy” Wong
Aaron has been working with and for the owner of Phoenix Games for a decade. His experience in business management, employee supervision, and customer service secured him the Assistant Manager’s position at Phoenix Games.
However, his vast knowledge of retro games and their history in conjunction with the Japanese language (Aaron studied at SFU) has solidified his position as a valuable asset and resource of the business.
While the Vectrex was his first game system, his two favorites for which he avidly plays and collects for are the Nintendo 8-bit console and the Turbo Grafx (Japanese version pc engine).
Aaron has been collecting for various consoles for over twenty years and his personal collection often rivals the display cabinets at the store.
Aside from retro gaming, he also enjoys many of the modern indie games on his PC. He feels that today’s indie games are reminiscent of the early Nintendo 8-bit days when games were more experimental and not so formulaic.
Like most of the employees, Aaron also enjoys pinball and is an avid member of the East Bay Pinball League.
Aaron is currently playing, Killing Floor, puzzle games such as, Bejeweled and a variety of indie games as well.
It’s true that Aaron devotes a tremendous amount of time to gaming; however, he also enjoys playing guitar, collecting vintage vinyl, and tackling yard projects for his home.
When asked about what he enjoys most about Phoenix Games he simply stated that it’s a combination of interesting conversations and being surrounded by games.
“After all, as a collector, how could you not enjoy being on the front lines and having access to some of the rarest and most obscure gaming collectibles out there?”
